Best SSO Solution for Enterprises

Best SSO Solution for EnterprisesAfter reviewing a number of single sign-on (SSO) solutions, we recommend Oktaas the best enterprise SSO. We chose Okta from dozens of SSO companies. To understand how we chose Okta, you can find our methodology on our best picks page. Why Okta?We selected Okta as the best enterprise SSO because the company offers a customizable enterprise service that is negotiable based on your organizations needs. The enterprise package is recommended for large companies with more than 5,000 anticipated users, but Oktas geschftliches miteinander pricing plan offers a strong SSO solution for smaller companies as well.Ease of UseOkta is a user-friendly, easy-to-learn solution for end users. It employs a web portal that organizes all a users applications into a neat grid, where theyre accessible with one click. The portal is customizable, allowing users to rearrange the applications as they see fit by dragging and dropping icons and creating personalized tabs for quick reference. A browser tab makes it easy for administrators to cycle through saved websites and applications and monitor credentials.Okta has a relatively simple implementation phase due to its compatibility with different directory types, including active directory and LDAP across multiple domains. It also maintains strong security policy controls, which empower administrators to platzset specific access rules and conditions, as well as monitor password complexity and application usage.Key FeaturesUser provisions Okta allows administrators unique control over the user provisioning process. Settings for how and when to import a user based on specific conditions, such as whether they have an existing Okta account, help you tailor an automated import process to suit your needs. For example, administrators can set the precise instances when they should be alerted to further monitor an account. This expedites the implementation process by directing administrators attention only to the nec essary users.Multifactor authentication MFA is imperative for security purposes, and Okta allows you to activate it in a number of ways. Several platforms come pre-integrated with Okta, and you can set security policies to require MFA under specific conditions. This added layer of security is especially important for large firms.Security reports Okta provides security reporting in real time, which can help administrators monitor the system for any signs of foul play or spot potential vulnerabilities before they become a problem. With a heavily data-driven approach, the reports can feel overwhelming, but theyre thorough and competent.PricingOkta maintains a multi-tier pricing system, starting at $1 per user per month for the most basic service. To enable multifactor authentication, which is a must for businesses, Okta costs $3 per user per month. The enterprise service, which the company recommends for 5,000-plus users, requires a quote but can be tailored to suit the demands of your organization.LimitationsThe biggest limitation we encountered with Okta is that security policies have to be set on an application-by-application basis, meaning more tedious work for administrators. While this isnt a barrier to functionality, it does slow the setup process and produce additional work for the IT department.Ready to choose a single sign-on solution? Considering An MBA Heres How It Can Help

Considering An MBA Heres How It Can Help If youre a student or young adult considering applying for an MBA program in 2017 or the near future, youre likely to come across a few articles and opinions attempting to dissuade you from doing so. The argument is becoming increasingly frequent and familiar the MBA is expensive and no longer represents quite the guarantee it once did in terms of employment and income. Just this past summer, The Economist, which covers a huge sortiment of topics relating to business and economics, wrote an analysis suggesting that MBAs are no longer prized by employers. This goes even a step beyond the more typical refrain that the workplace is simply too competitive to expect an immediate ROI with an MBA. You get the idea. Doing your research online, youll come across a lot of reasons to try to enter the workforce rather than pursue an advanced business degree. And for many individuals, this ends up being the right decision to make. Im not here to argue that you should absolutely attend business school. However, I would suggest that its almost trendy to say the MBA isnt worth it, and that for many reasons, its still a very valuable degree. Below Ill touch on a few of those reasons, particularly with regard to young women seeking careers in business. Youll location Yourself For Higher SalaryHeres a very interesting thing about the popular arguments against the MBA even some of them will acknowledge that employees with MBAs can often earn higher salaries. Indeed, the same report cited above from The Economist stated recent MBA graduates can expect to increase their salary by 79%. The caveat welches that MBA on a rsum doesnt necessarily lead to finding a job in the first place. Nevertheless, this is an appealing benefit for women pursuing business degrees. With salaries still uneven across the gender gap, pursuing a degree that frequently elevates earnings has certain logic to it. Youll Learn LeadershipWhen youre pursuing an MBA, leadersh ip is of the utmost importance. In fact, it tends to be emphasized before youre even enrolled. I was struck some time ago by Menlo Coachings focus on leadership. This site is dedicated to helping students with MBA applications, and it included a detailed explanation of how to tackle the leadership question by conveying leadership experience and strategies. The very fact that this is such a big aspect of the MBA application shows just how much its prioritized in business school education. Learning leadership skills is vital for any woman looking to succeed in the world of business, which is still dominated by men in most instances. Youll Gain Real Knowledge & ConnectionsThis is not specific to women, but its a point that a lot of people seem to be ignoring unterstellung days. I cant stress it enough you do, in fact, learn things in business school Theres so much attention devoted to the price of attendance and the value of the degree that we ignore what happens in between. The chance to learn business from experienced professionals and make connections with alumni, professors, and fellow students can be invaluable. Youll Close The Gender Gap In geschftlicher umgangThis ones fairly self-explanatory, but for a bit of extra reading on it, Huffington Posts Whats Working section hosted a wonderful contribution about why being a woman MBA candidate is a beautiful thing. The post noted that women are everywhere in MBA programs, but also discussed the ongoing gender gap in business.Id ultimately argue that you shouldnt make decisions about your own education and future simply to improve problematic statistics. But the idea that youre helping to even the score is a nice cherry on top, regardless--Patti Conner is a freelance writer hailing from Seattle, Wash. Talent Development of Soft Skills a New Focus for CFOs

Talent Development of Soft Skills a New Focus for CFOs A newly released survey by APQC, A New CFO Priority Talent Development with a Focus on Soft Skills, indicates that many organizations are falling short of sufficiently skilled financial professionals as baby boomers begin to retire in growing numbers. The survey found that the gap between the value of a typical financial organization and what it can provide its stakeholders is growing. Surprisingly, only 5 percent of survey respondents believe that finance is currently delivering game-changing value to their enterprises, says Mary Driscoll, senior research director, financial management, for APQC. There are many reasons for this gap in performance, but the primary one is an age-old albatross finance is often bogged down with transactional work and doesnt have the time to produce meaningful analysis. Whats more, many finance professionals lack the soft skills necessary to present concisely to senior operating managers and to persuade with diplomacy.Other findings from the survey include Finance organizations generally lack the tools needed to increase productivity and free employees from menial tasks more than half (58 percent) of respondents said they do bedrngnis have the time for value-added analysis while 45 percent say that lack the technology to increase efficiency. 64 percent of respondents ranked financial planning and analysis positions as the hardest to fill. Organizations considered strong business partners tend to have CFOs with dedication to professional development, especially in soft skills training.Over one in five respondents agree that finance is excluded from the decision-making process as it is not seen as a partner to the business. However, over 40 percent who consider themselves partners invest in soft-skills training and encourage finance employees to learn the business.By developing managerial skil ls not adequately addressed in a traditional accounting curriculum, CFOs can prepare the next generation of finance talent to takeand keeptheir seats at the strategic planning table, says Driscoll. Soft-skills training programs aim to strengthen a finance staffers ability to communicate concisely with top executives, negotiate with managers in other domains, build effective teams, and collaborate with others in pursuit of common goals.

3 Easy Ways to Disguise Resume Gaps

3 Easy Ways to Disguise Resume Gaps 3 Easy Ways to Disguise Resume Gaps If youre worried about gemeinsame agrarpolitiks in your resume, youre not alone. This is one of the fruchtwein common concerns expressed by new clients of Blue Sky Resumes, and a common topic of conversation on web forums and social media sites. The good news is that resume gaps are not as big a concern as they used to be. As our economy has changed, the world of work has transformed with it. People keep jobs for shorter and shorter periods of time and periods of unemployment are quite common, even for those with the most successful careers. However, its still a good idea to minimize any negative impact so here are 3 simple tricks I use when writing resumes for clients.Show only years instead of monthsIf your resume gap is less than a year, it can easily be disguised simply by not including months of employment. Instead show years only (2009-2012 for example). Some interviewers will ask you about months of employm ent, but if youve reached the interview stage, this tactic has already done its job youve passed the first screen and been given an opportunity to explain what happened in person.Explaining the gap Sometimes the gap will be too long to hide by just using years. Perhaps you went back to college to get a degree or took a few years off to raise kids. In these cases, you dont want potential employers to think you were unemployed for such a long time, so I find its best to be direct and honest about what happened. When writing for a client, I usually just describe the reasons for the gap (along with any volunteer work) in three or less lines. I include this description in the career history section of the resume where the gap would normally be. Here is an exampleNOTE between 2008 and 2011, took career sabbatical to study full-time for Masters degree in Organizational Development. During this time, also worked as a volunteer with several local non-profit groups.Or, heres one for a stay- at-home parentNOTE Between 2008 and 2013, took career break to raise young children. Finally, here is an example pulled from one of the resumes I wrote for a clientNOTE In 2010, I retired from work, fully intending to relax and take it easy. But I quickly discovered that Im not the take it easy type. I have been volunteering 30-40 hours a week since 2011 and am now keen to return to a full-time leadership position where I can really make a difference. Each of these explanations is honest, and each completely eliminates the employers potential concerns (which are all about whether you were just out of work for a really long time).Including unpaid work in your career history If you held freelance or unpaid volunteer positions during your gap, you can list them as regular positions and describe them in the same way. This works really well because not only does it fill the gap it also ensures that you get credit for valuable work experience. Just because you werent paid doesnt mean you didnt learn new skills, gain experience and deliver results, so dont fall into the trap of thinking experience doesnt count unless you received a salary. So, if youre a web designer who did unpaid work for friends, consider including Freelance Web Designer in your career history, and list the projects you worked on. If youre a stay-at home parent who assisted at your kids school or helped to run the PTA, you can show that as work experience. In summaryResume gaps are not necessarily a big liability, but they can still hurt your chances with some resume screeners. Thats why using one of these 3 easy strategies can make all the difference between being interviewed or ignored. Good luck

Bad bosses When the buck doesnt stop at the top

Bad baboes When the buck doesnt stop at the topBad baboes When the buck doesnt stop at the topIts not always easy to read the signs that the person at the helm of the company is about to sink the ship. Once the wretched behavior becomes apparent and employees realize that theyve unwittingly signed on with a toxic boss, theyll have to weather some storms until they can find a way to part ways.Bad bosses at the top create an environment of anxiety and chaos. The stress and long hours of the typical workplace would be schwimmbad enough under normal circumstances, but theyre compounded under a command-and-control boss whose self-absorption, incivility and manipulative tactics take center stage.Follow Ladders on FlipboardFollow Ladders magazines on Flipboard covering Happiness, Productivity, Job Satisfaction, Neuroscience, and moreAtrocious conduct at the top inevitably spreads throughout the organization and derails workers motivation and productivity. The result is a revolving door of d emoralized employees.Research shows that toxic bosses are the leading cause for employees quitting their jobs. But for a number of reasons, its not always easy to make a quick break. Until theyre able to land their next job, staff members must do their best to survive their unscrupulous and undisciplined boss. Theyll have to cultivate a combination of delicacy, dexterity, and determination. Here are some of the inappropriate behaviors that bad bosses display, and ways to cope until you can break free.1. Driven by egoTrue leaders are concerned most with whats best for the organization and the people in it. But your bosss me-centricity results in self-serving strategies and decisions driven by a need for ego enlargement. You realize that your boss often gets played because feigned praise or flattery lures him into making poor geschftliches miteinander decisions.Try to employ a bit of flattery of your own when you think it can move the boss toward an approach more aligned with the compa nys best interest. But be sure to follow up with smart tactics for solving the problem at hand (even if you know its not what the boss wants to hear).2. Turns on anyone who voices oppositionSkilled CEOs know how to assemble a reasonably stable and loyal staff who arent afraid to challenge their ideas or offer an opposing argument.Great leaders know that they alone dont have all the answers and they value each team members opinion. But when your boss displays a thin skin, perceiving any opposing suggestion or opinion as an attack, you know youre dealing with a bully. This boss reveres loyalty to herself above the purpose of the organization.Even though your boss goes off when shes been challenged, set an example by listening to others input and giving it consideration.3. Has a scattershot approach to goalsAny boss worth his clout has a clear idea of what he wants the company to achieve, and hes able to articulate it to get buy-in and cooperation from his staff. But when you work unde r an unfocused, impulsive micro-manager, youre faced with playing catch up each day with the bosss project de jour. You may have to stretch, but do your best to tie the latest venture into the companys overarching vision or framework.4. Doesnt take responsibilityWhen things go wrong, a boss with any measure of emotional intelligence will accept responsibility, understanding that she must own anything that happens on her watch. No one is perfect, and mistakes are part of learning and improving. But if your boss refuses to shoulder the blame and is intent on finding a culprit, show whomever the finger points to that you mucksmuschenstill have faith in the coworkers abilities. If youre the one whos assigned the blame, refrain from making excuses and dont bother trying to explain your side of the story to your uncaring boss. Vent to your keyboard and as soon as youre finished, drag the document to the trash. Never ever send it5. Plays fast and loose with the truthA CEO is expected to be th e face and voice of the organization and, therefore, needs to be disciplined in what he communicates.Making extreme or off-the-cuff statements undermine the companys credibility. If your boss tends to make unfiltered pronouncements, especially any that alienate people or blur the truth, do your best to neutralize the ire of clients or customers. Seek to restore confidence, if not in the company, at least in you.Make it a point to answer your clients or customers calls and be a sympathetic sounding board for their fury.6. Name calling is over the topEffective leaders know to take the high road and they dont get into the gutter and call people names. Such behavior doesnt make the leader appear tough it makes him sound like a schoolyard bully. Insulting taunts and remarks are undeserving of an audience, even when they come from your superior. If the boss tries to engage you in his offensive banter, let him know youre not amused and walk away.- - - Traits associated with effective lead ership humility, empathy, collaboration, and uprightness will always attract followers. But conceit, a lack of integrity and blatant cruelty will zap employee allegiance and send good people running for the exits.Vicky Oliver is a leading career development expert and the multi-best-selling author of five books, including Bad Bosses, Crazy Coworkers Other Office Idiots, and 301 Smart Answers to Tough Interview Questions, named in the Top 10 list of Best Books for HR Interview Prep. What Overqualified for a Job Really Means

What Overqualified for a Job Really MeansWhat Overqualified for a Job Really MeansIt never binnenseems to make any sense. You work your whole career learning skills and gaining experience. Then one day, an employer or hiring manager tells you in a rejection email, You are overqualified for this position. And you wonder, What does that really mean? The more you think about being too good to do a job, the less it makes sense to you. You fit the job qualifications and requirements and now that is a bad thing? If this has happened to you before, we explain what the hiring manager or employer was really trying to say by labeling you overqualified and how to avoid it.They cannot understand why you want the jobIf the job does not seem to pay well, it seems like you will get bored too quickly, or the hiring manager did not like your answer to the bewerbungsgesprch question, Why do you want to work here? they may call you overqualified. To them, it makes no sense that you would take a job beneat h your abilities that does not challenge you. They do not want to hire a person who will be bored and unmotivated because the work is too easy. Hiring managers and employers may even feel they are helping you by rejecting you. They feel this way because, in their eyes, the job is beneath you. They feel unworthy of your talent and abilitiesImagine for a moment you are a business owner running a startup. Your experience is as small as your budget and you are learning as you go.Then, you post a job listing and an experienced Google engineer applies. What do you do? It may be easy to say you will hire him or her, but the reality is this person has the experience you find intimidating, plus you have no idea how you can afford him or her.Maybe one day they will look to hire you. But until that time, you are just too good for the company because of your experience. You know this is the case if an employer bluntly says with a curious tone, I do not understand why you want to work here. They f ear they will lose you quicklyLets face it. A person with great skills and experience always runs the risk of not sticking around too long. The processes behind hiring, training, bringing people up to speed and all of the administrative processes in between...all cost time and money. Companies do not want to go through the process if they predict you will likely to quit within a year.If they know your skills are relevant and that there is a risk you will be gone within a year, they may use the label overqualified. The risk is greater than the reward to them. This label can also be applied if they see you are a job hopper, and given every company would kill to have you, they may pass on you while using this label. They fear you are a litigious risk or culture fitSadly, this is the result of operating in a country with Equal Employment Opportunity laws (EEOC) and less-than-respectable business owners. If a company fears you run the risk of one day filing a lawsuit for any form of discrim ination, or you fall into a legally protected class of job candidate, they may call you overqualified. Meanwhile, the real intent behind the label is discrimination based on age, race, gender, and disability.Settling lawsuits is expensive and not all bosses are scrupulous. Bosses make mistakes, too. If they slip up and do something that leads to a lawsuit, it always reflects poorly on a companys reputation. Companies may just not want to deal with all of it and use safe words to get out of hiring someone such as not a good culture fit. What to do about all thisYou cannot change what you are and your experience, so try some of unterstellung things to help.Update your resume to remove information that may unnecessarily lead to biased decision-makingDate you graduatedPicturesMake your reasons for wanting to work at a company have epic meaning. Make your experience sound geared towards you achieving your mission in life. Explain why your experience and their company will complete your mi ssion of working for a company that you truly believe in.Above all, never allow what you know to be obstacles get in the way of your career progression. You are only limited by the fear that is holding you back
